In the world of design and manufacturing, progress is often measured in innovation. Yet we believe something equally important lies in preserving what must not be lost - heritage, skill, and the human stories that give objects their meaning. At Collier Webb, these values continue to guide us, shaped by the leadership of our Managing Director, Danielle Collier, whose vision is helping to shape both the future of our company and the role of women within an industry historically defined by male-dominated manufacturing.
Collier Webb was founded on the principles of British craftsmanship. Every piece we create is designed, engineered and handcrafted under one roof in Sussex, England. Keeping our craft in-house is both rare and intentional. It allows us to preserve specialist skills - Pattern Making, Lost Wax Casting, Sand Casting, Finishing and Assembly - disciplines that rely on the knowledge, intuition and experience of our makers rather than automation.

When Danielle Collier became Managing Director in 2023, she inherited more than a business; she inherited a responsibility to protect and evolve this legacy. Having grown up around our workshop, she witnessed first-hand the changing landscape of manufacturing, alongside the dedication and expertise of the craftspeople who bring our designs to life. Her leadership has been shaped by a quiet determination: to honour the heritage of Collier Webb while ensuring it continues to resonate with a new generation.
Leading a manufacturing business as a woman remains, even today, less common than it should be. Workshops and foundries have long been perceived as traditionally male spaces, shaped by industrial histories and physical processes.

Danielle’s leadership challenges that narrative not through disruption, but through thoughtful evolution. Her approach reflects a broader shift within design and production - one where creativity, technical understanding and leadership are defined not by gender, but by vision, collaboration and commitment.
This perspective naturally influences what we create. Nowhere is this more evident than in our Seven Sisters collection - a body of work deeply connected to both place and purpose. Named after the iconic chalk cliffs along the Sussex coastline, the collection is also an ode to women, past and present, whose lives and achievements have shaped culture, creativity and social progress.

Each piece in the collection is named after remarkable women connected to Sussex, weaving narrative into form. The Jacqueline Globe, Johanna Lantern, Clementina Lantern, Vera Pendant, Juliet Flush Mount and Grace Flush Mount honour individuals whose contributions span literature, sport, social reform, music and design. Inspired by the natural elements that surround our Sussex foundry, each design reflects qualities of character, strength, warmth, resilience and balance, expressed through proportion, material and light.
In this way, the collection becomes more than a series of lighting designs. It becomes an act of recognition. It celebrates women whose influence may not always be visible, yet whose impact continues to shape the world around us. Just as light reveals and defines a space, these names illuminate stories that deserve to remain present within our shared cultural memory.
Danielle’s leadership brings this connection into sharper focus. By maintaining the integrity of handcraftsmanship while encouraging a forward-looking creative direction, she ensures that Collier Webb remains both rooted in tradition and relevant for the future. Her influence is evident not only in the objects we create, but also in the values they represent: respect for craft, commitment to storytelling through design, and recognition of the individuals who inspire progress.

In the wider context of women in design, this intersection between leadership and creation feels particularly meaningful. Representation is not only about visibility, but about influence - about shaping industries, preserving skills and redefining expectations. Through both our leadership and our collections, we believe design can serve as a powerful platform for recognition and empowerment.
In every handcrafted piece, there is a dual narrative. One of maker and one of meaning. Under Danielle’s guidance, these narratives continue to evolve, ensuring the legacy of British craftsmanship remains alive - and that the stories of women, past and present, continue to be spotlighted.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the New York Design Center will host a Women in Design event on Wednesday 11 March, with Gold Collective presenting a panel discussion in the Collier Webb | Fromental showroom. Titled Ladies Who Build, the conversation will feature Linda Cirigliano of LC Three in discussion with Lori Beppu of BMA Architects, Dana Raines of Highline Construction Group, Kate Ferguson of Palomino Interiors, and Nicole McCarron of Osbee. Together, they will explore the role of women in the building industry and share how they have helped shape and grow their respective companies.
