Curated Walls: Elevating Art Displays with Handcrafted Picture Rail Systems

Display artwork is about more than simply hanging a frame on a wall. The way art is presented can shape the character of a space, guiding the eye and adding another layer of considered detail to an interior. Our Picture Rail Systems offer a refined and flexible way to curate artwork, combining practical function with the beauty of handcrafted metalwork.

Handcrafted to order, each rail is designed to integrate seamlessly into its environment while providing a robust and elegant structure for displaying artworks, mirrors, or textiles. Crafted in heavy-gauge brass for strength and longevity, the system offers exceptional support while maintaining a refined, architectural presence.

Designed Around Your Space

Every project is different, and the picture rail system has been created with that in mind. Rails can be specified in fully customised lengths to suit the scale of a room, whether running along a single wall or wrapping around an entire gallery space. A variety of brackets and finials allow the design to be tailored further, from traditional decorative forms such as pine cone or ribbed ball finials to minimal end caps for a cleaner, contemporary finish.

This flexibility ensures the system can complement a wide range of interiors. In grand settings with expansive walls, it creates the structure for curated gallery-style installations. In more intimate rooms, a smaller-scale rail can become a subtle architectural feature, offering a refined way to suspend individual artworks or a carefully composed arrangement of pieces.

The system is equally adaptable when it comes to hanging artwork itself. Chains and hooks can be selected to suit different weights and sizes of artwork, allowing pieces to be repositioned easily without altering the wall surface. This versatility makes the rail particularly valuable in spaces where collections evolve over time.

Illuminating the Collection

For projects where lighting is integral to the display, the rail can also be specified as an electrified system. This allows discreet picture lighting to be mounted directly onto the rail, introducing both illumination and visual interest.

With a choice of three lighting options, the electrified rail brings artworks into sharper focus, creating a gallery-like ambience within residential or commercial interiors. Adjustable picture lights allow the direction and distribution of light to be carefully refined, highlighting texture, colour and detail within the artwork below.

The result is a display that feels both intentional and elevated, where lighting and hardware work together as part of a cohesive design language.

Balancing Heritage and Adaptability

Picture rails have a long history in interior design, traditionally used to hang tapestries and artwork while preserving the integrity of decorative wall finishes. Today, contemporary picture hanging systems reinterpret this heritage, offering the same flexibility with a modern precision of design.

Our approach preserves this tradition while elevating it through material quality and bespoke craftsmanship. Each component - from the rails themselves to the chains, brackets and finials - is carefully considered to ensure both aesthetic harmony and structural reliability.

Looking Ahead

This spring will see the introduction of two new picture rail designs expanding the collection further. One draws inspiration from nature, bringing an organic motif to the system through intricate detailing. The other takes a more contemporary direction, evolving one of Collier Webb’s existing patterns into a refined new rail that bridges tradition and modern design.

Together, these additions continue the philosophy behind the picture rail system itself: thoughtful craftsmanship, adaptable design, and an enduring focus on how art is experienced within a space.
