The Kips Bay Decorator Show Houses are some of the most hotly anticipated dates in the interior design calendar. With both the Manhattan and Palm Beach houses setting the standard high, the inaugural Dallas show did not disappoint. Over twenty of the USA’s top designers and artists created a beautifully textural and undeniably luxurious new take on Southern style.
A 12,000 square foot home in Dallas’s Preston Hollow was bought to life by a who’s-who list of designers from the local area and further afield. Included are rooms by Mark D. Sikes and Cathy Kincaid Interiors, as well as Wells Design who we were thrilled to work with to provide a variety of pieces.
We spoke to Lauren Hudson, MD of Wells Design to find out more about their beautiful room…
Wells Design & Kips Bay Dallas
I have always followed the New York Show House, so when they announced their expansion to Dallas I applied and was thrilled to be included in this inaugural show house. They selected local charities to support in addition to Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, including Dallas-based Dwell with Dignity. I think it’s a wonderful way to support these causes.
A Guest Room for a Sophisticated Traveller
Each design team is assigned a room and we were given a bedroom; a ‘Guest Room for a Sophisticated Traveller’. We decided to create an escape for guests passing through town from one dreamy location to another.
The room was large enough for a seating area and a fully dressed bed. It was so fun to imagine traveling again! We really tried to put ourselves in the shoes of our traveling guest and began scheming.
Our scheme began around the Rose Cumming fabric we selected for the bed – the focal point of the room. We added a wonderful Namay Samay fabric that was custom coloured to coordinate with the bed fabric and took that up the walls and across the ceiling to create a collective hug for all who enter the room. From there everything else fell into place pretty easily.
A touch of Anglophilia in Texas
The Collier Webb Cep lamp on our etagere really defined that vignette, as did the fabulous Collier Webb Bamboo mirror over our chest. We filled our room with beautiful artwork including a piece of embroidery above the bed, and your picture hanging chains were the perfect complement, suspending the art in style!
