Q & A: LUXURY INTERIOR DESIGN WITH MORPHEUS LONDON

11th March 2019

Specialists in bespoke, luxury interior design, Morpheus London are renowned for creating exceptional properties in the world’s most desirable locations.

We talk to Rickesh Patel, Design Director of this award-winning design house…

With more than 12 years’ experience in architecture and interior design, including working on the award-winning £180m restoration of The Savoy Hotel, Rickesh joined the Morpheus London team in 2014 from Reardonsmith Architects.

An Architectural Design graduate from the University of Creative Arts Canterbury, Rickesh’s admiration for design and craftsmanship ensures every interior is brought to life by an unrivalled attention to detail that begins at the drawing board.

This shared passion for craftsmanship helped form the perfect partnership when Collier Webb were asked to create a bespoke lighting piece for a sumptuous Morpheus London project: Nova SW1, Belgravia. We asked Rickesh to tell us more about this fabulously designed penthouse…

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS PROJECT?

We were tasked with supplying loose furnishing, accessories and artwork to aid the sale of a four-bedroom penthouse show apartment with extensive views of Belgravia, within a luxury new development.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?

We wanted to showcase the apartment to potential buyers in a way that shows the lifestyle and living experience they could have within the development.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DESIGN INSPIRATIONS AND HOW THEY INFLUENCED THE DESIGN OF THIS PROJECT?

All Morpheus projects begin with an abstract dream that draws inspiration from a number of influences, which is then translated into further moodboards creating a more tangible reality. In this case Morpheus took design inspiration from the unique location combined with the target individual who could reside in this property. We were also guided by The Nova Building’s principle, “Created for Individuals”.

WERE THERE ANY CHALLENGES?

The main challenge was to create a design with a distinct identity and concept, whilst appealing to a broad audience and not deterring buyers.

WHAT CONSIDERATIONS AFFECTED YOUR CHOICE OF LIGHTING DESIGN?

The design had to integrate with the existing system, whilst using lamps and chandeliers to create a luxurious and more ambient feel to the apartment.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE DINING ROOM CHANDELIER AND HOW YOU WORKED WITH THE TEAM AT COLLIER WEBB TO ACHIEVE THE END RESULT?

The focus of the design was to create an elegant and simple chandelier casting ambient light whilst dining, but also to have a light visual impact to not detract from the view of West London. Clear glass was used with a gentle curving overall profile, and a mirrored ceiling panel that elongates the design and keeps an elegant simplicity. Individual pendants have angular sides to create a variety of lighting effects.

Collier Webb excelled in taking the concept sketch produced by Morpheus and refining the design into final models and CAD. Their expertise allowed Morpheus to have confidence in the effect and build of the chandelier, whilst keeping the desired features of the concept sketch.

TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT MORPHEUS

Morpheus is based in London but our projects span the globe. We have completed luxury interior design projects throughout Europe, the US and China.

At the end of 2018 we were honoured to be awarded the “Best Ski Chalet” design for our project “The Lodge” in Courchevel.

We were winners at the International Design and Architecture Awards for two years running and also shortlisted in the CGI & Visualisation category at the SBID International Design Awards 2018.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MORPHEUS?

We’re excited to announce the launch of Meta by Morpheus, a full dressing service and furniture package solution for property insiders, developers and investors. Drawing inspiration from Savile Row, the Meta ‘made-to-measure’ service neatly bridges the gap between a fully bespoke interior design commission and ‘ready-to-wear’ furniture options. Taking the hassle out of furnishing a property, Meta looks to provide clients with a quick, cost-effective and efficient way to dress their residence while helping them to stand out in a competitive market. The highly acclaimed personal Morpheus service seamlessly manages the furnishing, installation and accessorising of the space – right down to the final touches such as stocking cutlery drawers and composing flower arrangements.
