Bespoke Lighting for Oro Bianco

In 2019 we had the privilege of working with London based interior designers, Oro Bianco to create an extensive collection of bespoke lighting for their residential project in Dubai.

The Oro Bianco team came to us with initial renders Рthis included a range of outdoor lighting, chandeliers, lanterns and table lights. Our collaborative design approach enabled us to work closely with Oro Bianco, quickly establishing the intricate requirements which included allowances for Dubai’s extreme climate. The Collier Webb design team created CAD drawings that would eventually bring their vision to reality.

Fourteen bespoke designs were created for this project which included in total 187 pieces. Each one requiring different techniques, materials and finishes.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING
Seven different designs were created to illuminate the grounds of this extensive residential project, including pathway lights, wall lights, pendants and chandeliers. All made from brass using a combination of traditional casting and machining and including beautiful hand cut, clear bevelled glass. The brass was coloured using a specialist bronze finish, using nano technology making it suitable for outdoor use. Due to the challenges presented by the Dubai climate and the expansion rates of glass and brass, we completed a series of extensive tests on protypes, from 0 all the way to 60 degrees Celsius. We also had to account for sandstorms, extreme humidity and rain.

ARABESQUE CHANDELIER
A very large chandelier was created for one of the internal rooms. Measuring 1500mm, the size of this piece was a challenge in its self. The design process had to take into consideration that the piece would have to be shipped in smaller sections and assembled on site.

A layered framework was constructed from steel and coloured in a specialist bronze finish. Fretwork panels were made from brass using our CNC punch press and layered with textured glass in pink and red to create a truly unique statement piece.

LOBBY LANTERN
A beautiful design featuring purple glass, paired with our Antique Brass metal finish. The structure was created using a mixture of machining and water jet cut solid brass.

GUEST BEDROOM LANTERN
A brass framework was created to encase beautiful green glass panels to form this bespoke lantern. The frame was made using state-of-the-art machining and water jet cutting. Internal reeded and curved bulb arms were 3D printing to create moulds for metal casting. Each encased glass panel can be lowered to ensure easy access to replace bulbs.

BAMBOO PENDANT
The Collier Webb team created various bamboo style pieces for this Oro Bianco project, including a round ceiling pendant, coffee table and wall lights. The pendant features an outer frame consisting of cast verticals. These were made using handcrafted pattern making techniques by our in-house pattern maker and then cast using the tradition lost-wax method. Lost-wax is the preferred mode of casting for such intricate designs. The brass framework, coloured in our Antique Gilt finish encases double clear glass shades.

BAMBOO WALL LIGHT
To accompany the Bamboo Pendant, Oro Bianco commissioned these beautiful wall lights. The back-plates feature a rattan style texture which was crafted by hand by our pattern maker. The back-plate and bamboo stem were cast in solid brass using the lost-wax method and coloured in our Antique Gilt finish.

GAZEBO LIGHTING
A hanging lantern and floor lamp were created for this area in our Dark Silver metal finish. We used a mix of handcrafting, fabrication and water jet cutting to create the faceted structure of both pieces.

PINEAPPLE TABLE LAMPS
Two beautiful solid brass Pineapple table lamps were created at the Collier Webb Foundry and finished in Antique Gilt. The base was moulded using a real pineapple skin and cast using the lost-wax method to ensure none of the detail was lost. Two layers of cast leaves enclosed the lamp stem.
